Day 321.

Dissertation draft, done, printed off, ready to be handed in next Wednesday, no worries for Paris.

Day 319.

I've pretty much slogged my guts out today and haven't left the house. I've really got on with my dissertation, I'm so happy.

Day 303.

I completely forgot about 365 yesterday, so here are two photos from today - I tried to start my dissertation today, it's made me very sad but at least I have a layout and something down.

Day 297.

© Ruth Johnston 2010.

I'm so pleased with myself. I'm bang up to date with all of the work for my half-Chinese project, now all I need to do is get onto the same level with my dissertation, I think it will be best to put a day aside next week as whole of this week after Wednesday is full, you'll see.

Day 294.

This is Rishi Ghosh, he's half-Chinese, half-Indian, a pretty interesting mix. He's an actor who lives in London, he said he might bring his younger sister over to help out with my project which would be cool. I thought I'd put this un-edited version on as I'm so happy the lighting is finally working properly.

Day 293.

The tutorial ended up going really well, I'm pretty pleased. I'm also more up to date with everything than I thought I was - this is a photo of my sketchbook. I copped up on the text a bit though.

Day 292.

So, I'm kind of stressing about all my images for my tutorial tomorrow being the same and 'good enough' to be put onto the wall. I don't even know what I'm going to say :\

So peeved with Bonus Print right now, not only does my printer print better than theirs - which it shouldn't because photograph printing is their business - but, their the wrong size and took until today to get to me, when I ordered them last week. Poor service, never using them again, I could have saved hassle and just used my own ink, think I'll bear that in mind for next time, I don't think it matters that I'll use paper because that was cheaper than asking Bonus Print to do it anyway. They are wank.
I'm also annoyed because I was going to post them off straight away but the guy for my shoot didn't turn up until half-past 5, I couldn't really be angry though because he was doing me a favour and it's not like he was in Portsmouth to see me. It went well anyway, despite him literally being a total stranger with no mutual friends between us. It's definitely easier because we have this common half-Chinese ground.

Day 286.

I'm so happy that my shoot today went well that this is today's 365. Not only was this guy really nice, but everything went according to plan and nothing broke. I hope the rest of the week goes well...

Day 279.

© Ruth Johnston 2010.

I was meant to go back to New Malden today, but my tutorial was so long that I was too tired and stressed to bother facing the long train journey. I'll go tomorrow, I got some decent criticisms, but ended up with a stress-headache and being very annoyed too, not due to my crit, just due to certain people on my course. Urgh.
Here is a photo of my work on the wall.

Day 276.

I feel like I have officially entered work-mode, I think the results tomorrow will be much more impressive.
I have books, I've read and I've printed out things. I'm not looking forward to the cutting and sticking though.

Day 201.

© Ruth Johnson 2010.

Today was the Malden Fortnight presentation evening, I attended because I was invited and I brought along Moon as my 'plus one', it was alright, they just gave out some prizes for best stalls at the Craft Fair and things like that. I was made to get up in front of the committee and was presented with £50 for the work I'd done for them. It was a very nice gesture, not only to be thanked but also the money considering I wasn't meant to be getting paid at all. I have also had an enquiry to come back up in October to photograph a lady's birthday party. I'm quite happy I went now and it definitely wasn't as boring as I thought it would be. Putting everything else aside, I even got a free slice of cake and a free beer.

Day 190.

© Ruth Johnston 2010.

I was back at the Charity Cream Tea today, Jacqueline Wilson was there having cream tea and signing books for children; I kind of wish I was the age I was when I loved all her books then I could have got a signed book. She was even drawing pictures next to what she had signed. She went to Coombe Girls' School so I guess that's why she's often around Kingston doing things like this, I think it's quite nice. I always forget what she looks like, in my head I always think of the drawings of her characters in her books.

Day 189.

© Ruth Johnston 2010.

So, today was busy, I photographed dancing, taekwondo, flowers, the craft fair, people enjoying cream tea and two children's tv presenters. Hectic, but enjoyable, even in this heat; despite the blisters my sandals gave me.
There were a lot of cupcakes at the Craft Fair, even my cousin had a stall, but these were by fair the best and brightest. It was very cool to be the 'official photographer'; the rest of the photographs will be on my website and my favourites will be on my normal blog.
I'm meant to be photographing Jacqueline Wilson tomorrow, so glad it's not an early one, I'm so tired.

Day 143.

© Ruth Johnston 2010.

Today has been a bit frustrating.
I felt bad that Moon's exam went badly yesterday, but also as though I had to bear the brunt of it, luckily he got it mostly off his chest by the time he came back from the library this afternoon, so I feel a bit better now.
I spent the afternoon hunting out work for the summer, there is a lot, just in places like Manchester and Newcastle, but I'm going to keep looking, I've sent my CV off to a local portrait studio and Vice, fingers crossed I have something coming my way for summer.
There was an awesome-sounding job abroad, which I was fine with but it was for muddled months, so I left it alone.
A new CV is also what this afternoon went on, I'm not quite sure where this day has gone, oh well.

Monday, 10 May 2010

Day 128.

© Ruth Johnston 2010.

So there is my stupid work, stupidly hung up.
I didn't stay for my 'crit' because I had been there since 10, already had two breaks and was being made to go back after lunch, which after sitting around for hours was only 40 minutes long anyway, and then I would have had to wait at least 15 minutes more when I went back. Forget that.
I think I did ok though, pretty much everyone put real effort in.

I'm out with coursies tonight, ha.

Sunday, 9 May 2010

Day 126.

Note to self:
When mounting prints, always take your time and always print back-ups, in case you (because you probably will) mess up.

Tuesday, 4 May 2010

Day 122.

© Ruth Johnston 2010.

My bin is full to the brim with paper, I am getting very nervous about this project, even though I know there are some people who aren't even nearly finished and I am on the home-straight. Why do I do this to myself, I even know that I'm not actually too bad.

Sunday, 2 May 2010

Day 120.

© Ruth Johnston 2010.

I tried to do a panorama for today, but nothing is working!
I'm not even working properly. I am slowly redeeming myself, slowly.

Saturday, 1 May 2010

Day 119.

© Ruth Johnston 2010.

So, the InDesign for The Body unit is done, all that's left for this unit is the book work that's piled up whilst I've been working on the computer. I'm quite pleased with these, they should look quite good when I print them out on A3, that day isn't going to be a fun one. At least once all that's done, my work for my second year will only needed to be handed in and I'll be free for the summer. I hope to be toiling all day tomorrow, let's hope I can pull some motivation from somewhere...
